Analysis:

Rajah & Tann is a leading regional law firm that is highly regarded for its corporate/M&A practice, real estate and construction as well as its expertise on banking and finance matters. The firm also has a growing IT, telco and media practice and a strong disputes resolution team.

Led by Chau Huy Quang and Vu Thi Que, Rajah & Tann LCT Lawyers has offices in Vietnam’s two largest cities and has more than 30 experienced associates and professionals led by six partners. In a landmark transaction, Vu led a team of lawyers advising Novelis Group on a US$1.2 billion credit agreement between companies belonging to the Novelis Group and Wells Fargo Bank in a deal that closed in late 2014. Vu also has significant construction and real estate experience, handling the merger of a significant player in the building materials industry. Her team is advising How Yu Construction, a subsidiary of Taiwanese construction group Fu Tsu Group, in an ongoing project on the build transfer contract for the construction of a 19.8 Km highway between Ha Long City and Bach Dang Bridge. The team advised on material aspects of the construction of the road, including assisting on a US$260 million syndicated loan arrangement.

Within the disputes practice, Quang works on a number of cross-border cases, particularly those involving international arbitration. “They have a high quality team with a key regional presence, who undertake a high volume of work,” notes one peer. Quang also heads the energy & natural resources practice, shipping & maritime practice, and acts counsel on large financial services regulatory matters.

Rajah & Tann recently merged with VN Counsel, managed by partner Nguyen Thi Hong Thang in an effort to expand its team of local counsel who advise on foreign investment in Vietnam.
